WORK CREDITS
SSDI benefit eligibility is based on work credits. These credits are determined from the age of the worker at the time he or she became disabled. Generally speaking, an individual that is 50 years old would need at least 28 work credits and to have work at least the last 5 of 10 years in order to be eligible for SSDI benefits. If you are unsure of how many work credits you have, it is recommended you contact your local Social Security office. At your local office, they can confirm your work credits.
